Mile High Denver Auto Repair Highlights Colorado Driver Winterization Items

Mile High Denver Auto Repair releases its list of some of the top automobile winterization items for Colorado drivers to check in preparation for the season.

Denver, Colorado, December 22, 2010 - Mile High Denver Auto Repair today released an announcement to inform its customers and other area automobiles owners of some of the important automobile winterization items to check in preparation for seasonal driving. Items on the list include:

1. Prepare basic seasonal items: For removal of exterior snow and ice that can accumulate overnight or in parking lots be sure to have a sturdy ice scraper and brush ready. Heavy snows can build up on trunk lids so keeping the equipment in the car’s interior will ensure its availability whenever the need arises.

2) Check your tires: Many drivers today utilize all-season tires on a year round basis. Colorado drivers who venture frequently into the mountains may want to consider installing specialized snow tires in the winter. In either case ensure that the tires have sufficient tread and are inflated properly so that they perform according to manufacturer specifications.

3) Check/repair your windshield: Even if your windshield has survived the warmer months with a crack that did not expand, the winter months may not be so cooperative. Heading into the winter it’s best to repair or replace cracked windshield to prevent spreading due to thermal shock.

4) Replace wipers & monitor washer fluid: To maintain clear driving visibility in winter condition ensure that the wiper blades are functioning properly. If the blades are worn then it may be time to replace them to make sure they’re available for service when the inevitable winter storms occur. Also keep wiper reservoirs filled or close to full since a day of driving in splash back conditions can rapidly deplete the fluid supply.

5) Check the battery: Cold weather engine starts require a good battery. Weak batteries are sometimes prone to failure during winter months and must be replaced. If batteries are weakened then it may be best to be proactively replace them rather than run the risk of being stranded with outside temperatures at or below freezing.

6) Prepare for emergencies: Many people today carry cell phones that are invaluable for requesting assistance in the event of a break down. It’s also a good idea to have emergency repair and tow truck numbers handy in your car in the event they’re needed.
