Mile High Denver Auto Repair Releases List of Fraud Prevention Tips
Established Denver auto repair service center announces smart consumer tips for guarding against potential abuse or fraud in obtaining auto repair services.
Denver, Colorado, September 30, 2009 - Denver automotive repair shop Mile High Denver Auto Repair today released a public service announcement of tips for avoiding abuse or outright fraud in purchasing auto repair services. While the vast majority of auto repair facilities are honest and ethical it’s still a good idea to adhere to common sense guidelines that can help prevent misunderstandings in connection with obtaining auto repair services. Recommended tips include the following:
1. Check the prospective repair shop’s professional affiliations.
Does the repair center belong to the Better Business Bureau? Are the technicians ASE Certified or in possession of other accreditations. Credentials such as these can provide a measure of assurance that you’re dealing with a reputable firm.
2. Inquire about third party referrals and recommendations for the business.
The facility may have letters of recommendation on file from previous and current customers. Consult the repair shop directly to ask about written recommendations they’ve received. If possible also consult other area residents and businesses in the vicinity to get their first hand opinions.
3. Make sure you understand what the repair shop intends to do on your vehicle.
Even if you’re not mechanically inclined make sure you’re given a common sense explanation of the proposed repairs to your vehicle. It may be helpful to understand how the problems were diagnosed, the purpose of the proposed repair and the relative priority for making them according to a schedule.
4. Always obtain estimates in writing.
Automobiles aren’t purchased without the benefit of a written document. Similarly repair services should not be performed without having each repair and its cost itemized in writing. A written quote removes any doubt.
5. Require your consent for all repairs.
Ensure that the repair shop obtains your explicit approval on all repair items prior to doing the work. Normally this is the policy at most reputable shops but just to be sure it’s best to confirm this understanding.
